My Teaching Philosophy
It is life that has been twirled and shaped into a
pretzel. Yoga allows us to gently twist out of these situations, out
of the repetitive loops that cause us to make the same mistakes over
and over again.
As a Yoga instructor I work to present the safest means of
practicing posture (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama) that
fits the needs of each student. As a Yoga teacher I am
dedicated to providing Yoga in its fullness, a practice that allows
us to reach beyond the mat and into our lives. I recognize that Yoga
is more than a series of exercises. It is a way of life. It is a
method in which we can learn to create our lives and not be subject
to the circumstances of our lives.
I teach Integral Yoga , formulated by Swami Satchidananda who
brought the practice to the United States in the latter 1960's. The
practice is a well-rounded, addressing the entire body, physically
and energetically. It is meditative with results of a healthy and
"ease-ful" body, a profoundly balanced energy and deeply relaxed
state of mind. Integral Yoga not only addresses the core of one's
body, but also reaches the core of one's life.
In the West most people come to Yoga through Hatha (the
physiological aspects if Yoga.) A class is made of different body
types and various dispositions. One practice will certainly vary
from another. It is my job as a teacher to show that the asanas are
not templates, in which we try to squeeze the body. Each posture
works as a dialogue with the body. Each posture allows the
practitioner understand him- or herself better. I support the
student in honoring the individuality of the body and understanding
the power of the mind. I encourage the student on his or her own
path.
When I discovered Yoga it seemed that so much of my life came
together. Yoga allowed me to be more genuine and experience of life
to its fullest. Yoga has enabled me to untwist out of the
pretzel-like view I had on life. It is my sincere wish to share this
rich experience with you.
